Elevating Women-Owned Businesses: Elevate-HER Pitch Program
12.31.24
Empowering women entrepreneurs remains a driving force behind economic growth and community resilience here at Bank of Guam. On September 2024, in partnership with the Guam Women’s Chamber of Commerce (GWCC) and KUAM Communications, we launched our inaugural Elevate‑HER Pitch Program during Fanachu Famalåo’an, the island’s signature women’s summit.
The Elevate‑HER Pitch Program is more than a competition. It is a platform designed to uplift, support, and invest in women‑owned businesses at various stages of their success. By providing funding, marketing exposure, and professional networks, the program helps participants turn ideas into sustainable enterprises.
All three finalists presented their pitches to a respected panel of judges, including leaders from Archway, Inc., M80 Systems, and Bank of Guam, reinforcing the program’s commitment to mentorship and real‑world business insight.
This year’s grand prize winner is Karmen George, founder of Nemin Boutique, who emerged victorious among three talented finalists after delivering her pitch before a distinguished panel of judges and a live audience of more than 400 attendees at the Dusit Thani Guam Resort.
In recognition of her innovative vision and compelling business model, George was awarded a comprehensive prize package valued at more than $10,000, including:
- $5,000 in funding from Bank of Guam
- $5,000 in advertising credits for television, radio, and digital platforms from KUAM Communications
- A one‑year membership with the Guam Women’s Chamber of Commerce
In addition to securing the top honor, George also received The People’s Choice Award, as selected by the live audience. This bonus award included an additional $1,000 in funding, $1,000 in advertising credits, and annual GWCC membership benefits, further underscoring strong community support for her brand and mission.
Founded with a deep respect for cultural heritage, Nemin Boutique is inspired by the empowerment of Micronesian women through fashion. The boutique’s name is derived from the Chuukese word “Nemin,” meaning women, and reflects George’s commitment to celebrating identity, confidence, and individuality.
George reimagines the traditional muumuu, transforming it into bold, contemporary statement pieces designed for a new generation. Her work bridges cultural tradition with modern aesthetics, offering apparel that honors Micronesian roots while encouraging self‑expression and pride among women across the region.
Reflecting on her achievement, George shared that the experience gave her the confidence to elevate her business to new heights emphasizing that the win extends beyond herself to every woman entrepreneur who dares to dream big and work hard. Her words echoed the broader purpose of Elevate‑HER: creating opportunity, visibility, and momentum for women across Guam’s business landscape.
