From Idea to Insight: Creating Made to Play as Summer Interns

Eight weeks wasn’t enough time to teach every aspect of digital media marketing. To help guide the project, Erin and Gabby followed a structured task list designed to keep the campaign on track while providing exposure to each stage of the digital media marketing process.

The first phase focused on concept development. Through a series of working sessions and brainstorming exercises, the interns were challenged to identify a topic that was both personally meaningful and relevant to their peers.

As athletes themselves, Erin and Gabby reflected on their experiences participating in youth sports. Like many young athletes, they spent years focused on practices, games, tournaments, and equipment without fully understanding the financial commitment required from their families. It wasn't until recently that they began to recognize how quickly expenses such as uniforms, registration fees, tournament costs, and travel can add up.

This realization sparked the idea for Made to Play.

The campaign was built around a simple but powerful message: every young athlete deserves the opportunity to play, grow, and pursue their passions, and planning can help families prepare and hopefully, live in the moment when supporting their young athletes.

Once the concept was identified, the interns shifted their focus to campaign planning and execution. They defined their target audience, established campaign goals, selected the Bank of Guam-owned digital channels they would leverage, and developed a content strategy designed to educate and engage families.

With a strategy in place, Erin and Gabby moved into content creation, producing social media posts, videos, graphics, captions, and educational messaging focused on the financial realities of youth sports and the value of planning ahead through saving.

While the campaign focused on helping families prepare for youth sports expenses, the project itself represented something larger: an opportunity for students to apply classroom knowledge in a professional environment.

Over eight weeks, Gabby and Erin transformed an idea into a fully executed campaign, building confidence, strengthening their skills, and gaining experience that will support their future academic and career goals.

Just as families invest in their children's athletic dreams, investing in young professionals helps create opportunities for future success.

We are proud of what Gabby and Erin accomplished during their time with us and grateful for the creativity and collaboration they brought to this project. Their work serves as a reminder that meaningful experiences and mentorship can empower the next generation to make a lasting impact.
